John Deere Hay Equipment FAQs

What is the difference between a disc mower and a mower conditioner?
A disc mower cuts the crop. A mower conditioner cuts and conditions it so hay dries faster, which helps you bale sooner for higher quality feed.

What size tractor do I need for a John Deere disc mower?
The R160 needs at least 30 PTO hp, stepping up to 55 PTO hp for the R310. Each disc mower page lists the hitch category and PTO speed.

Do John Deere balers record bale data?
Many do. Models such as the 451M, 451R, 461R, 561R and L341 list bale documentation with John Deere Operations Center and a John Deere moisture sensor and weighing system.

Does John Deere make a baler that wraps bales?
Yes. The C451R wrapping baler makes 4 ft by 5 ft bales and has a 2.2 m wide precutter.

What small square balers does John Deere offer?
Our pages list the 328 twine baler, the 338 twine or wire baler and the 348 square baler.
