ST12 STRIP TILL St12 Strip Till FAQs

What does the John Deere ST12 strip-till tool do?

The ST12 is a 12-row strip-till tool for 30 in. rows that clears residue and tills 8 to 10 in. strips while leaving the rest of the row undisturbed. In one pass it handles compaction management, nutrient application and seedbed preparation, and it comes in integral or drawn versions.

Should I choose coulters or shanks on the John Deere ST12?

Dual coulters use two blades spaced 5 in. apart, work up to 6 in. deep at speeds up to 10 mph and allow earlier field access. Shanks fracture compacted soil in tough conditions and can apply anhydrous ammonia, with pin settings of about 9 in. or 11 in. deep. Four bolts per row unit let you switch between the two.

What is the difference between the ST12 Integral and ST12 Drawn?

The ST12 Integral mounts to a Category 4/4N three-point hitch with a quick hitch and has a 30 ft working width, a 20 ft 9 in. transport width, a 12 ft 10 in. transport height and a 12,000 lb weight. The ST12 Drawn uses a Category 4/4HD/5 drawn connection and adds two integrated dry fertilizer tanks of 160 bu each, so you can apply fertilizer while you till.

How do you set the working depth on the John Deere ST12?

On coulter units, air regulators in the cab set downforce airbag pressure for an operating depth of 2 to 6 in. The downforce is split into two circuits so rows running in wheel tracks can be set separately from the rest. The display does not read depth in inches, so dig test strips to confirm.

What guidance options work with the John Deere ST12?

Drawn models can be ordered Active Implement Guidance Ready with an integrated steerable hitch that keeps the tool on the guidance line on slopes and varying soil; the StarFire receiver is not included. AutoPath uses data from your strip-till pass to create guidance lines for planting, spraying and harvest so you plant right into the strips.
