Rippers

John Deere Rippers

A ripper reaches below the normal tillage zone to fracture compacted soil, so water can move down and roots can grow deeper. John Deere offers rippers for different goals, from a minimum till ripper that leaves residue on the surface to disk and combination rippers that size and bury residue and level the ground in the same pass.

John Deere Ripper FAQs

What is the difference between a disk ripper and a minimum till ripper?
A minimum till ripper like the 2100 uses straight shanks to fracture compaction while keeping soil and residue disturbance low. The 2720 disk ripper adds disks to cut and bury residue, burying it to 15 inches and leaving a level soil profile.

Is the John Deere 2100 a 3-point or pull-type ripper?
Both. The integral 2100 mounts on a Category 2, 3 or 3N three-point hitch with Quik-Coupler, and a drawn hitch is available on the seven and nine standard 30 inch models.

What does the 2730 combination ripper do in one pass?
Front disks size and bury residue, ripper shanks on 24 inch spacing fracture hardpan, and rear closing disks and a finishing attachment leave a mounded or level finish. Depth can be adjusted from the cab on the go.

What size tractor do I need for a ripper?
Horsepower is figured per standard. The 2100 calls for 30 to 40 HP per standard with a maximum compatible tractor of 310 engine HP, and the 2730 calls for 34 to 55 HP per standard.
