Field Cultivators and Mulch Finishers

Field Cultivators and Mulch Finishers

Field cultivators and mulch finishers do the last pass before planting, loosening soil, managing residue and leaving a level seedbed. The 2230 field cultivators work up to 5 in. deep at 6 to 10 mph, and the 2330 mulch finisher adds a disk gang up front for heavier residue.

For smaller tractors, Frontier PC10 cultivators and PM10 middle busters fit a Category 1 3-point hitch. Koenig Equipment can help you size any of them to your tractor; request a quote to get started.

Field Cultivator and Mulch Finisher FAQs

What is the difference between a mulch finisher and a field cultivator?
A mulch finisher like the 2330 runs 20 in. disk blades ahead of its shanks, so it cuts and handles heavier residue. A field cultivator like the 2230 relies on shanks to loosen and level the seedbed, working up to 5 in. deep.

What size tractor do I need for a 2230 field cultivator?
Plan on 8 to 12 hp per foot of working width, depending on soil, depth and speed. The tractor needs 2 SCVs for lift and fold, plus another if you add rolling basket down pressure.

How many acres per hour can these tools cover?
At 10 mph, the 69 ft 6 in. 2230 Floating Hitch can cover up to 84 acres per hour, and the 56 ft 3 in. 2330 Mulch Finisher up to 68 acres per hour.

What shank spacing does the 2230 use?
TruPosition C-shanks on true 6 in. split-the-middle spacing with 200 lb of trip force, so the full width is cut evenly and fewer strips of weeds survive.

Do you have a field cultivator for a compact or utility tractor?
Yes. The Frontier PC10 Series fits Category 1 3-point hitches on 25 to 45 hp tractors and is iMatch quick hitch compatible. The PC1072 has a 72 in. working width with 13 tines.
