The John Deere H550 is listed at a 50 ft width with 7.5 in. spacing, and the seed openers can be set at 7.5, 10 or 12.5 in. spacing. Transport height is 16.11 ft with the harrow and 15.54 ft without it.
The 50 ft H550 calls for about 350 hp. It needs two SCVs, one for frame lift and one for wing fold and transport wheels, and 2200 psi of tractor hydraulic pressure. The hitch is Category 4 with a 2 in. pin.
Positive mechanical depth control with depth shims is base equipment on the H550. Two indexed shim packs on the mainframe cut the number of adjustment sites by up to 60 percent compared to earlier designs, so depth is repeatable and quick to set.
The H550 uses a diagonal-flex mainframe and wings, built with ball joints and 4 x 4 in. rank tubes, so openers stay engaged and hold depth over uneven terrain while stress on the frame is relieved. Underframe clearance is 28 in.
The H550 offers a choice of ground-engaging openers, including knife bodies for low-disturbance seeding, Perma-Loc spoons and sweeps that change out faster than bolt-on parts, and high-productivity sweeps for higher working speeds in heavy residue. RelativeFlow blockage monitoring lets you watch seed and fertilizer flow from the cab.
