The John Deere R240 disc mower cuts a 7.92 ft (2.4 m) swath with six disks and 12 knives. The high-speed disks turn at 2986 rpm to cut cleanly in tough conditions.
The R240 needs a minimum of 45 PTO hp at 540 rpm and a Category 2 3-point hitch, and it is quick-hitch compatible. The lower hitch pins adjust over a 4 in. offset range to match wider tire spacing, and an optional long hitch pin from Parts extends the offset to 8 in.
The R240 weighs 1,350 lb. It uses a hydraulic lift system, and the cutterbar works through a cutting arc of +35 to -25 degrees.
Power reaches the discs through fully enclosed gears running in oil for quiet, reliable operation, and disc drive-shaft shears protect the cutterbar if you hit a solid object. Each disc has two free-swinging knives with two cutting edges, and the disc quills lift out from the top of the cutterbar for easy service.
A hydraulic cylinder raises the cutterbar from cutting to transport position without raising the tractor hitch, and it locks in place automatically. An optional rearward-swinging cylinder, available through Parts, swings the mower away from the tractor so you do not have to fold the protective curtain. A built-in storage compartment holds spare knives and hardware.
