35 years, five counties and a crew of hometown students
Jake Vitt started by mowing his family's yard in sixth grade. Today Logan Lawn & Landscaping cares for commercial and residential properties across five Ohio counties, with crews made up largely of local students. A fleet of John Deere QuikTrak stand-on mowers from our Urbana store now has those crews reaching more than 300 properties every week.

What started as a push mower and a few neighborhood lawns has grown into a company that has served West Liberty and the surrounding counties for 35 years. For 20 of those years, Jake ran the business while also serving as Athletic Director at West Liberty-Salem. In 2022 he moved to the business full time.
He still hires the way a coach would. Many of his crew members are local students, and the job gives them real work experience and a strong work ethic.
Before the stand-ons, Logan Lawn & Landscaping ran zero-turn mowers. A trailer carried three of them, and crews spent much longer at each property working around tight spaces and steep slopes the zero-turns were not built for.
With a growing route across five counties, every extra minute at a stop, and every mower that would not fit on the trailer, limited how many properties a crew could reach in a day.

Beginning in 2024, Logan Lawn & Landscaping added John Deere commercial mowers from our Urbana store: Q850R and Q850M QuikTrak stand-on mowers and Z930M and Z950M ZTrak zero-turns, followed by a Gator XUV835R in 2025. STIHL trimmers and blowers handle the detail work on every stop.
“The stand-ons are much more user friendly and can maneuver into tighter spaces much easier. They handle steep inclines and hills that zero turn mowers wouldn't even stand a chance at holding up to. The crew members feel a lot more comfortable on them and can get through jobs faster.”
Jake calls himself a “Deere guy” with no plans of changing. “Their quality and attention to detail in the fabrication of their commercial equipment has always impressed me.”
The smaller stand-ons also fit more machines on a trailer: four and sometimes five, where the zero-turns allowed three. That puts a fourth operator on a machine for every crew.
“James and all of Koenig have always given me respectable service and made sure that anything needed to keep my business operating at full capacity is taken care of,” Jake says. “I believe in doing business locally.”

“My experience with Koenig over my 35 years of being in business is not always perfect, but no business is, and when there are challenges, they ALWAYS rise to the top and contact me directly to rectify the situation making it workable and acceptable on both ends. I will continue to keep my business and service needs at Koenig as they are a customer friendly and service oriented group of quality individuals!”
Jake Vitt, Owner, Logan Lawn & Landscaping

Logan Lawn & Landscaping keeps adding services. Jake plans to open more retail space at the shop for landscape supplies and materials for the community, and to grow the fleet to support it, with John Deere high on the list. As he puts it, when someone new walks into his shop, the “sea of green equipment” is a lot to take in.
