Grunder Landscaping

One standardized John Deere fleet for a growing landscape and snow business

Marty Grunder started Grunder Landscaping in 1984 with a $25 garage-sale lawnmower to pay his way through the University of Dayton. Today the Miamisburg company is one of Southwest Ohio's best-known landscape firms, with design-build, commercial maintenance, snow removal and bid-build work, and more than 50 local and national awards.

The Challenge

When Seth Pflum stepped in as President and Chief Operating Officer, he set out to diversify Grunder Landscaping's services and scale the company. That meant standardizing the fleet, bringing in more technology and running every crew more efficiently.

Seth knew the right compact construction equipment partner would be critical to that growth plan.

The Solution

Brittany Walford from our commercial team worked with Seth and his team to standardize the fleet on John Deere 318G skid steers and 204 G-Tier compact wheel loaders. She guided them through leasing and compared the financial options to find the most cost-effective setup.

That let Grunder Landscaping stay focused on landscaping, hardscaping and snow removal while Koenig handled the fleet.

The Impact

Moving from seasonal rentals to a leased fleet spread equipment costs more evenly through the year, for better cash flow and more predictable budgets.

Standard machines simplified operations, cut downtime and improved reliability, which matters most during peak snow events. Running their own machines and operators, instead of rental equipment, gave Grunder Landscaping more control and better profitability.

John Deere 318G Skid Steer

Chosen for its two-speed travel and efficiency on pavement work, especially snow removal.

John Deere 204 G-Tier Wheel Loader

Chosen for loading salt and pushing snow, and sized to work in narrow areas while still handling big jobs.
